August & September 2014
On Saturday, August 2, we will meet at the Farmers Branch Campus at 12:15 pm for a very special lunch in Arlington at Potager Cafe where our own Chris Austin is the Chef. If I understand correctly, the owner shops daily for fresh food and Chris never knows what he will be cooking until she appears. As many of you have experienced, he has amazing gastro culinary talents. You will not be given a bill for your food -- they ask that you pay what you think the meal was worth. Please bring cash -- they do not take credit cards. I would plan on at least $10-$12 and you may want to leave a gratuity. The restaurant only seats a small number of people so please let me know ASAP if you plan to go so we can arrange for transportation. If you are willing to drive a church van, please let me know.
Following lunch, we will go to the Arlington Museum of Art to enjoy the current Ansel Adams exhibition. They are giving me a price of $5 each.
SEPTEMBER - IT'S STATE FAIR TIME - LET'S GO SEE BIG TEX AND ENJOY A CORNY DOG!!!!!
Sunday, September 28 following first service at the Farmers Branch Campus - bring a change of clothes if you like and meet us at the FB Dart train station, 12800 Denton Drive (1.3 miles from church). The trains run every 20 minutes but we thought it would be fun to ride together. Let's plan to take the 10:59 a.m. train; that will give us time to enjoy brunch. Once we arrive at the Fair Park gate, we can look at the show times and everyone can decide when/if they want to meet up again.
We will want to board the Southbound Green Line Buckner Lane train -- there are no transfers and travel time is 44 minutes. If you have a Medicare card with you, you may purchase an all-day pass for $2.50 - younger singles will pay $5 for an all-day pass.
When you are ready to come home, you will board the Northbound Green Line Carrollton train at the same place you got off at Fair Park. Again, the trains depart Fair Park every 20 minutes -- the last train leaves at 12:11 a.m.
Schedules change, so check with Dart if you'd like further information about transportation - 214-979-1111.
If you like, you may go online and purchase advance tickets, as well as food coupons for the Fair -- the senior price is $13 -- I'm sure Kroger, Tom Thumb and others will be selling tickets at a discount. Visit the State Fair website for further fair details.
Please let me know if you think you will attend the State Fair. If we get as many as 20, I will see if I can get us a discount.
