“Children are a heritage from the Lord; a reward from Him!" Psalm 127:3
It's exciting whenever a new child enters a family. There's no greater moment than when parents sense that children are a gift from God. In these joyful moments, parents can express their full appreciation to God through baby dedication.
Dedicating a child acknowledges God's sovereignty not only over the child, but also over Mom and Dad. Parents present their child before God and His people, asking for grace and wisdom in carrying out their responsibilities. Parents also come praying that their child might one day trust Jesus Christ as Savior for the forgiveness of sin.
The Branch wants to partner with parents in raising their children to seek God, know His Word, and live a full life in Jesus Christ. Our Baby Dedication weekends are a way for us to pledge that commitment as well as celebrate the arrival of our newborns.
We hold Baby Dedication weekends once a year in the fall. This is a time for parents to bring their new babies before the congregation for a time of prayer, dedication, and mutual commitment. These weekends are always special, and highly anticipated.
Do You Have a Newborn or One on the Way?
Once your little one has arrived, give our church office a call and let us know the details! We try to acknowledge births in the program handed out in our weekend services. Our Senior Minister, Chris Seidman, will also send you a letter of congratulations. This letter will share the date of our next Baby Dedication Weekend.
About a month or so before the date, you will receive an email giving you a heads up that the date is approaching, and that you should watch for a letter of invitation from our Children’s Minister, Tim Scott. This letter will include all the details you need to know before the weekend arrives. We hope this will give you enough time to invite family and friends not already attending The Branch to join you for this momentous occasion. It is vitally important that you read and follow the instructions. We want to accommodate you in the assembly you regularly attend, and we would like to share with the audience a video montage showing every participating baby, so the information requested is important.
Congratulations, and thank you for the opportunity to share in this joyous occasion!
A Tip for New Parents:
"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up."
~ Deuteronomy 6:5-7
This passage helps us in two ways. First, it commands parents to love God; if we truly wish for our children to one day love and follow God, our lives must be an example.
Second, Deuteronomy makes clear that the duty of teaching children belongs to parents; Kids Branch can provide weekly instruction, but as parents, we must seize the teachable moments that arise throughout life. Explain the value of prayer (for example, repetitious prayers like "Now I lay me down to sleep . . .") at meal times and before bed. Read Bible stories to them. Create practical ways to add Godly things into your daily family routines.
