I Knew Him When . . .

Sometime in the next 24-48 hours, I hope you’ll be with us at one of our campuses for worship and the next installment in our “Anti-Fragile Love” series. I’ll have more to say about this weekend’s message, but first a word about last weekend.

Last Sunday some of us, along with hundreds of millions around the world, watched as 21-year-old Jordan Spieth won the Masters. His remarkable achievement was accompanied by the character and humility with which he handled himself following the tournament. I’ve been around Jordan since he was 12. He grew up playing at Brookhaven, which I’ve frequented through the years. He was a golfing prodigy at a young age, but I must admit that I didn’t ever imagine him winning a Masters so early in his career.

It’s not uncommon for droves of people to come out, like I just did, and say “I knew him when . . . .” Most of us enjoy volunteering that we personally know a famous person. But it’s another thing for the famous person to know you and call you by name. By the way, I doubt that he’d know me by name.

Now consider this. There’s no one more famous than Jesus. And He knows each of us by name. In fact, He calls each of us by name. Check out Hebrews 2:11-12 sometime.

Each of us is loved and known by the Master. That’s of great consolation to me – particularly after a triple bogey.

Well, alright, I’m still mad about the triple bogey.

Speaking of triple bogeys and things going wrong, how about we continue our series on “Anti-Fragile Love” this weekend? This coming weekend’s message will highlight three fundamental keys for building “anti-fragile” relationships. These are right out of one particular passage of Scripture, and are true for marriage, family, and friendships. Come with guests in tow!

See you soon!

Grace and Peace,
