"Is This Heaven?" "No. It's Iowa"
Some of you might remember the film Field of Dreams. It tells the story of a farmer who listens to a voice from another realm and builds a baseball field in the middle of a cornfield. Ever so gradually, long-deceased major league baseball players from another era begin to emerge out of the cornfield and onto the baseball diamond to play again. Their smiles are a mile wide, and they are at their athletic peak. In one of the climatic scenes one of the players looks at the farmer, played by Kevin Costner, and asks him, “Is this heaven?”
The farmer replies, “No. It’s Iowa.”
We all have our own ideas of what heaven will be like. This coming weekend, we’ll launch a new series, “Heaven,” and explore what clues Jesus has left us about the world to come. We’ll also explore how keeping in mind the next world can help us to make a difference in this one.
By all means, bring folks with you. There’s no shortage of folks who have questions about heaven. This will be a fabulous opportunity to reorient our own faith while helping to arouse the faith of others.
Whether Thursday night or Sunday morning, come! Heaven can make all the difference in the world.
Grace and Peace,
