iStudy - James - A Faith That Works

Small Group Leaders

Chris started his new series James - A Faith that Works last Sunday and we started 13 new small groups that evening.  It was a great start to this nine week series.  As Chris continues to unpack the book of James, we are encouraging the congregation to work through it with him using the iStudy format.

This is a great opportunity for your group members to grow in their capacity to engage with scripture and hear from God. Each week will be dealing with a bite sized portion of the book of James. This will give us an opportunity to really listen to what God is saying to us and to come to grips with some practical next steps we can take in obedience. Its going to be a rich time. To get the most out of this time in the Word it will be best to have completed the iStudy worksheet before hearing Chris.  Please encourage your group to take 30 or 45 minutes prior to hearing Chris to work through the iStudy worksheet for that week.

At The Branch we believe the Bible The Bible is the inspired Word of God, and therefore the final authority in our understanding of God and life. (2 Timothy 3:16, 2 Peter 1:19-21).  We believe that there are two fundamental questions that we - as disciples in process - engage with every day, namely:  what is God saying to me; and what am I going to do about it.  We believe that one of the primary ways God speaks to us is through His Word.  The iStudy format is a great way to help people in your group grow in the ability engage with scripture in a meaningful way and to listen to God.

Each week you will find the iStudy worksheet posted here.  The second page of the worksheet is instructions for its use. If you have questions about how to implement the iStudy format in your group, we have posted a video that will walk you through some basic steps for how to use it in your group.  You can find the training video here.

Our group has been getting some really good insight into the book of James. One thing we noticed in the first few chapters was a comparison between action and inaction, or perhaps, living faith and stagnant faith. For Example: , Don't just provide for yourself, provide for others; Don't just hear instruction, obey it; and finally, don't just confess your faith, complete it with works.
