LIFE IN THE SON - The Jesus Diet

Sermon-Based Bible Study
January 29, 2017

  • What are you thankful for this week? What are you celebrating? What has caused stress or anxiety in your world this week?

  • What did you hear in this week’s sermon that was new or particularly interesting? Did anything stand out to you as puzzling or troubling?

  • Can you think of a time when you were really hungry and got something delicious to eat? What were the circumstances? What did you eat?

  • Read John 4:1-42. How many of the people mentioned in this story were surprised/shocked that Jesus would speak with a woman? Chris mentioned that Jesus crossed racial and gender barriers in this story. What other barriers do you notice that Jesus crossed that sometimes separate people?

  • Read Psalm 40:6-8; 112:1. What was Jesus’ “eating plan?” Do you think Jesus was suggesting this eating plan for his disciples? For us? How would you describe your experience of obedience to God? Life-giving? Draining? Why might your experience be different that Jesus’ experience?

  • Chris suggested that perhaps the woman at the well in John 4 was looking for relationships with men to satisfy a need that could only be satisfied by God. What do you look to other than God to try to satisfy your deepest need? What’s your default “well?”

  • The woman’s testimony had an impact on the whole village. What was her testimony? Does it surprise you that the people in the village would be influenced by her testimony? Why?

  • What stage are you in when it comes to your journey with Jesus? How much of your belief is based on the testimony of others? How much of your belief is based on your personal experience with Jesus?

  • In the next 24-48 hours, what simple next step could you take in obedience to what you’ve learned from your time in God’s Word? Who would benefit from hearing what you’ve learned this week? Will you share it with them?
