Mike Tyson, Conan The Barbarian, and Jesus
Lend me your ears this weekend. I couldn’t resist, especially when you see what Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield have to do with this next message in our Game Changer series. Some other guests helping me to preach include: ancient “curse” tablets, Conan the Barbarian, Tolstoy, Gandhi, MLK, and Malcolm X, to name a few. Of course, our primary teacher will be Jesus. We’ll consider what is quite possibly among the most unique of Jesus’ teachings, and what is also among the most violated. Nevertheless, it was a game changer for our world, and it can be a game changer in our lives when we walk it out.
The Branch is partying Friday night at 7:00 pm at the Vista Ridge Campus! We’re gathering for some food, conversation, a bit of praise and prayer, and a good old-fashioned mortgage burning! We’re debt-free and stopping to mark the moment with thanksgiving. It’s a milestone. Whether you just got to The Branch or have been a part of this church for decades, come and help us mark the moment with thanksgiving!
Finally, I want to give you a preview of where I’m headed with you in teaching after the Game Changer series. For a few months now, I’ve been preparing for a series on the blood of Jesus. For several weeks we’ve been focused on how His life and teachings have shaped civilization in some practical ways over the last 2000 years, but what about His blood? There’s a scarlet thread woven throughout the Bible. We’ll talk about why it’s a big deal and what difference it makes, and I’ll try to address a few common questions a lot of us privately wonder about such as “Why did God set it up this way in the first place?” Like the old song says, “There is power in the blood.” We’ll explore how and why.
In the meantime, I leave you with this. We overcome our enemy by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony. (Revelation 12:11)
Grace and Peace to you all!
