MORPH – Week 5, Tuesday

TODAY'S READING

For it is by grace you have been saved through faith – and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works so that no one can boast. (Ephesians 2:8)

Tuesday, February 9

There is a huge debate right now over whether or not records set by Major League ballplayers such as Barry Bonds or Alex Rodriguez should have asterisks by their names because of their use of steroids. The asterisk, of course, would mean that the record was subject to debate – a tainted record.

A few summers ago, a fan by the name of Mark Ecko purchased the home run record ball of Barry Bonds. He did an online survey of fans in America to see what he should do with it. They voted overwhelmingly for him to brand the ball with an asterisk and donate it to the Baseball Hall of Fame. That’s exactly what he did.

If you’re searching for baseball immortality – the last thing you want is an asterisk by your name.

When it comes to immortality and being in the only record book that really matters – the Book of Life – there are no asterisks.

We’re all sinners and we are all saved by grace. The ground is level at the foot of the cross.
And it’s not just by grace that we’re saved. It’s by grace we live.

Lean into His grace today.

Grace and peace,

Chris
