Shame, Potbellies, and Anniversaries
All too often, I’ve allowed shame -- or my fear of it -- to be my primary counselor when it comes to making a decision or taking a course of action in my life. Shame rarely leads us to the right and healthy decision. Instead, it often leads us to actions that only complicate our lives all the more. Sooner or later, all of us must learn to handle shame through Christ, or shame will continue to handle us and steal more of our lives.
We launched “Beyond All Shame” this past weekend. If you missed it, check out the first message, “Shame 101,” before this weekend by clicking on the link at the bottom of this email. This coming weekend, we’ll explore the shame of the cross that Jesus faced, and what it has to do with you and me moving beyond all shame in our lives in very practical ways.
Don’t forget you can get your weekend started early with our 6:45 pm service on Thursday night at the VR campus! Potbelly in the house at 6:00 pm! No, I’m not talking about me (although I could be)! I’m talking about the delicious sandwich wizardry of Potbelly!
Next Tuesday night, September 20th, we’ll be celebrating the third anniversary of our Celebrate Recovery ministry! I’m excited to be there! We’ve had some of our largest crowds in three years on Tuesday nights recently. Regardless of what you may be facing in terms of a destructive habit or hurt in your life, it’s become a viable place to find freedom and wholeness. Check it out with me next Tuesday!
Grace and Peace,
See You This Weekend!
