Sugar In Your Tank

A few years ago, I was in conversation with my youngest about how a “car runs on gasoline.” I mentioned that it’s gasoline which gives a car its energy to “run on.” Cooper (who was about 5) responded, “Why not just pour some sugar into the tank?” (I guess he had heard somewhere that sugar gives you energy.)

Can you imagine seeing one of my little boys with a bag of sugar and a funnel? It would be a very expensive mistaken belief. What he thought would help the engine would, in reality, hurt it.

This coming weekend, our “Explore God” series brings us to another commonly asked question, which emerges when matters of God, faith, and Christianity are brought up in our culture. It goes something like this: “Is Christianity Too Narrow?”

In one sense, it probably is "too narrow" for our culture and what many people value today. So what do we say? If we're honest, there are times when we feel how narrow some of Jesus' teachings are in our own lives. Some of our wishes, desires, and actions just won't fit with what He calls us to.

And what does this have to do with my son wanting to see if a car can run on sugar?

I look forward to unpacking it all with you this coming weekend!

Grace and Peace,
