We had a great Labor Day Weekend in Kids Branch! We discussed how Jesus came to serve others, and set the example for us to follow of what it means to live a life of service. We also discussed how some people have jobs where they serve and protect others every day -- specifically fire fighters and police officers. We made individual thank you cards for every fire fighter and police officer in Farmers Branch and Carrollton, which we will deliver this week, leading up to ceremonies commemorating September 11, 2001. Read John 13 with your kids.
Talk to them about how washing another’s feet was a job reserved for the lowliest servant, yet Jesus -- the Son of God -- volunteered for the task, and commanded his disciples to follow his example. Discuss with your kids what it means to put the needs of others first, and specific situations where they can take the initiative and be a servant.
Read John 15:12-13 with your kids.
Talk to them about how some people -- notably fire fighters and police officers -- put themselves in danger in order to protect others. Tell them that the greatest example of this kind of love is Jesus, who came to earth and died for our sins. Share with them what the love and sacrifice of Jesus means to you.
Be intentional this week in helping your kids understand the love of Jesus, and our calling to live for others. Help them grow up with a strong sense of service, and a desire to be like Jesus.
Live the Prayer.
