LIFE IN THE SON - Grace and Truth

Sermon-Based Bible Study
February 12, 2017

  • What are you thankful for this week? What are you celebrating? What has caused stress or anxiety in your world this week?

  • What did you hear in this week’s sermon that was new or particularly interesting? Did anything stand out to you as puzzling or troubling?

  • Read John 7:53- 8:11. Why did Chris say that the beginning of this story infers that Jesus started his day with prayer? Is prayer a significant part of your morning routine? Why?

  • Read Leviticus 20:10 and John 18:30-31. How do these passages help you better understand how the people were trying to trap Jesus?

  • Read John 1:14. Jesus was full of grace and truth. How does Jesus express grace and truth to the woman caught in adultery? Do you think there is a significance to the order in which expresses these values? Does He express grace and truth to the people who brought her to Him? How? Do you find it difficult to show both grace and truth? Why? Which is easier for you to express?

  • Read Revelation 12:9-10. How is the way Satan is described in this passage similar to the way you might describe the religious leaders and others in this story who were trying to trap Jesus? Why would Chris say that if your life is one long guilt and condemnation trip – Jesus isn’t driving?

  • Read John 3:16-21, Romans 8:1, 34 and 1 John 2:1-2. Jesus does not condemn the woman caught in adultery. Is He condemning those who brought her to Him? What is it about the actions or attitudes of the religious leaders that puts them in danger of condemnation?

  • Are you letting Jesus stand between you and condemnation? Is there anything in your life you need to “leave”?

  • In the next 24-48 hours, what simple next step could you take in obedience to what you’ve learned from your time in God’s Word? Who would benefit from hearing what you’ve learned this week? Will you share it with them?
